Abi

Yoga Teacher

My Story

I came to yoga over 20 years ago, curious and open minded, seeking an antidote to a busy legal career. In the pell mell of life I quickly fell for yoga’s ability to calm, restore and energise. Over time it brought openness to stiff joints, strength to unused muscle groups, joy and playfulness to movement, as well as a deep respect for the body-mind connection, the power of stillness and the power of the breath. It is these qualities that I look to share through my teaching.

My teaching is also guided by my own regular practice of a simple, precise and exploratory approach to asana (postures) which embeds principles of rooting, expanding, connecting, quieting the mind, paying attention to the breath and relaxing. These are principles fleshed out in Orit Sen Gupta’s Vijnana-style yoga teachings.

I have been influenced by many other styles of yoga over the years and qualified as a teacher in 2019 via Barefoot Body Training’s trauma informed and somatics based teacher training course.

My classes combine mindful movement, focussed breathwork and stillness with an adaptive approach that seeks to tap into our innate wisdom. I believe that quality of practice comes from a deep listening and responding to the body, heart and mind. I seek to help you listen and respond in this way and so develop your own personal yogic toolkit, equipping you to move, and to be, with more ease and joy in your daily life.
